Watford Rugby Club was formed in 1973 following the demise of West Herts RFC and Sun Postal Rugby Club. Our Club House and ground is at Knutsford Playing Fields, Radlett Road, Watford. The Club gained the Seal of Approval and Club Mark accreditations in 2007 and continue to hold these accreditations. We are an extremely friendly club spending as much time, effort and money on socialising as we do on training and playing Rugby. Our club has an extensive range of youth teams ranging from under 7s to under 17s and senior sides for those over 17. We provide quality rugby coaching and playing opportunities for young and old rugby players alike in our area. This allows player to enjoy a safe, fun, learning and playing environment in order that they can develop their skills, keep fit and active and have fun.
A mixture of first and second team players comfortably beat Chess Valley this weekend to set themselves in good stead for the seasons run in. Fielding yet another young team (a feature of this years squads), Watford at times played scintilating rugby that was both effective and pleasing on the eye.
Watford have only themselves to blame after missing out on a golden opportunity to edge themselves away from the relegation zone following an event filled draw away to Cuffley. The result was all the more disappointing given the fact the home side played the majority of the game with 14 men, following a straight red to the Cuffley 10.
Watford 1st XV notched up their first win of the season with a tense, hard fought victory over Old Tottonians. In a physical, low scoring match which saw 3 yellow cards the away side snatched victory with a last minute penalty from the boot of Man of the Match Jacob Harris.
Watford 2nd XV looked to build on the previous weeks promising performance by putting on a good display against Hemel 4ths. Skipper Hicks selected a youthful side with a number of players under 21, a feature which has been characteristic of second team selection this season.
Watford missed a golden opportunity to open their account for the season, slipping to a narrow defeat against Pinner & Grammarians. The home team can only blame themselves, having enjoyed huge swathes of territory and possession but once again failing to put points on the board when it mattered.
