More stars announced for World XV game...

Yet more of the biggest names in world rugby have committed themselves to taking part in the Richard Hill testimonial match at Vicarage Road on Sunday 21st May, kick off 3pm, when a Saracens XV takes on a World XV.

In what promises to be a celebration of rugby, fans will have the chance to say thanks to Saracens stalwart Hill for his service to the club and it should be a fantastic game with the World XV side reading like a Who’s Who of rugby with Rupeni Caucau, Joe Roff and Brent Russell the latest to be confirmed for the squad. Fijian Caucau, widely regarded as the fastest player in world rugby, will be charging down the wing at Vicarage Road for the game. South African flyer Russell is another to have signed up for the game and with Australia Roff completing the latest trio of backs to be taking part in the game – it promises to be a feast of flowing rugby.

There’s also the chance to see some of your favourite players in action with current and former Saracens taking to the field for the match.

One of those player is Kyran Bracken and the match will be his last ever game at Vicarage Road before retiring at the end of the season. Kyran has been at the club for 10 years and played alongside Hill throughout his career for both Saracens and England.

Another Saracens favourite to be taking part in the game is former captain Tony Diprose and Kris Chesney has also signed up for the game to really make it a combination of the best current and former Saracens.

But the Saracens team will need to be at their best against a World XV side that oozes class.

All Black halfback pairing of Carlos Spencer and Justin Marshall have already agreed to play in the game and with Matt Burke, Bruce Reihana, Mark Robinson and Olivier Magne also involved, it promises to be a free-flowing game of rugby.

Tom Smith, Owen Finnegan , Mark Regan and Raphael Ibanez are also involved in the World XV side.

They will be joined by current Saracens Kevin Sorrell, Ben Johnston, Matt Cairns, Ben Russell, Simon Raiwalui, Moses Rauluni and Adam Powell.

The game marks the end of Richard Hill’s testimonial year after 10 years playing for Saracens RFC, and will help raise money for the Wooden Spoon Society, Anthony Nolan Trust and the Saracens Foundation.

Jackson wants to end on a high…

Fly-half Glen Jackson wants to end the season on a high when Saracens travel to London Irish for the final Guinness Premiership match of the season on Saturday.

Jackson, who has notched up 230 points this season to sit third in the Premiership scoring charts, and the rest of the squad will be looking to sign off on a victory and keep that fresh in the minds during the off-season.

The Exiles impressive victory over Wasps last weekend sees them going into the game already assured of a place in the championship play-offs, but a victory on Saturday still gives them hope of a home semi-final.

“It’s a game that matters a lot to London Irish, but we also want to go out with a bang,” explained Jackson. “Even though we’ve played 30-odd games this season, it’s usually the last one you’ve played that sticks in your mind the most. So it’s important for us to sign off with a victory and take that into pre-season and the preparations for next year.”

Friday night’s 13-12 defeat to Leicester Tigers, coupled with Northampton’s victory over the weekend, means Saracens can no longer qualify for the Heineken Cup next season.

“It was disappointing to lose that game against Leicester, especially with the possession we had in the closing minutes,” added Jackson. “It was one of the toughest games of the season and all the boys were shattered at the end.

“They defended really well and we didn’t get many line breaks which is something we had been doing a lot of in the games leading up to that. Our best chances were kicks at goal and based on try-scoring opportunities in the game, you’d probably have to say that Leicester were the better team than us on the night.”

Of course, before that Leicester game, four successive victories had lifted the side away from the threat of relegation and set up that chance of playing in Europe’s premier cup competition next season.

Jackson added: “It was certainly a big change around. We’d been working just as hard but things weren’t going for us. Certainly, Eddie Jones had a major influence when he arrived. Mike Ford has also done really well with him, but having a different voice and being able to call on the experience of someone at his level was something the team needed.

“It’s been a long season and we are all looking forward to the break and then coming back to work under Alan Gaffney. But firstly, we want to end on a high this weekend.”
