Tries from Daniel Leo and John Hart, to one from Ugo Monye, helped Wasps into a 20-11 lead at the break. Dave Walder kicked 15 points for Wasps, who saw Paul Sackey grab a second-half brace of tries, while Peter Bracken also went over. Harlequins, who had three players sin-binned, managed consolation tries from Nick Easter and Hal Luscombe. Harlequins, who have yet to win on their return to the top flight, scored the first points of the match when Adrian Jarvis landed a fourth-minute penalty. Wasps went ahead after 16 minutes when Samoa international Leo went over, with Walder converting. Quins went back in front a minute later as Monye crossed for a try but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Northampton made it two wins out of three with a try-scoring bonus point 33-18 victory over Bath in the Premiership. Saints had a superb start and three Bruce Reihana penalties and tries from Tom Smith and Sean Lamont put them 21-3 ahead after 37 minutes. Bath hit back with a try from Andrew Higgins on 40 minutes and just after the break, a penalty from Olly Barkley. But tries from Robbie Kydd and Carlos Spencer sealed victory although Michael Stephenson scored a late consolation. Bristol launched a spirited fightback to earn a 23-11 win at London Irish and go top of the Premiership. The hosts dominated the first half and led 11-3 at the break through a Kieran Roche try and two penalties from New Zealand fly-half Riki Flutey. Jason Strange kicked the visitors back into contention with two penalties soon after the break. Two defensive mistakes from the hosts then gifted David Lemi and Lee Robinson converted tries to see Bristol home. Gloucester snatched a 27-27 draw with a penalty from Brad Davies five minutes from time as Leicester let victory slip from their grasp at Welford Road. Centre Dan Hipkiss scored the only try of the first half as the Tigers, with three Andy Goode penalties, led 16-9. But Willie Walker, who kicked 14 points including two drop-goals, kept the visitors in it and James Forrester and Anthony Allen scored second-half tries. Tigers led 24-14 after a Seru Rabeni try, but could not close out victory. While the hosts will be furious at letting a second home victory of the season slip, the result provided further evidence of Gloucester's re-emergence as a Premiership force. They were the last team to win at Welford Road in the Premiership, since when Leicester have strung together an unbeaten 27-match run. Sale survived a ferocious second-half comeback from Worcester to inflict a third straight defeat on the Warriors. They were 8-0 up via a Charlie Hodgson penalty and Chris Bell's try before Shane Drahm got Worcester on the board. But Jason White rumbled over for the Sharks' second and a Hodgson penalty gave them a 15-3 half-time lead. A converted try from Aisea Havili and another Drahm penalty brought the hosts within two points but Hodgson's second penalty and a Mark Cueto try sealed the 25-13 win. |
