Old Millhillians 26 - 7 Watford |
|
Watford went into this game looking for the win that would ensure their safety in Herts/Middlesex 2 North. As has been the problem for most of the season their visiting opponents made the better start and soon took the lead with a converted try to make the score 7 - 0 to them. The first half turned out to be a battle of the forwards with both teams trying to secure quick ball for their backs to use. Just before half time Watford managed to get the quick ball they had been struggling for and good work by fly half Ian Butcher and centre's Quintas Van Bosch and Peter Cox led to Cox scoring under the posts for his 3rd try in 2 weeks. The conversion by scrum half Simon Maney made the score 7 - 7 at half time. Both teams were looking for the first score of the half to try and take the initiative. Unfortunately the visitors got the score and they pushed on with 2 further converted trys to win the game 26 - 7. The loss leaves Watford still relying on other teams to ensure that they do not get relegated and only with 2 league games left to get the points needed to remain safe. Special mention should be given to flanker Dave Mitchell who was outstanding and to the centre partnership of Van Bosch and Cox that is regularly playing at a high level. Team: Hickey, Hicks, Nelson, Sharpe, Stevens, Mitchell, De Klerk, Patterson, Maney, Butcher, Dunbar, Van Bosch, Cox, Portway, Asterburry. Subs used: Jenner for Hicks, Ossowski for Dunbar and Traxon for Portway. |
