Watford 2nd XV 79 - 10 OMT 2nd XV

As the scoreline suggests this was eventually a very one sided game though the opening exchanges gave few clues of what was to follow. Tries in the first quarter by Simon Tucker and Martin Lee gave a solid look to the scoreboard, but it was the three quick scores in the five minutes directly before the interval that really broke the spirit of the OMT's side.

In the second half another eight tries including four for winger Tucker, three for Martin Lee and two for skipper Gary Bridge playing out of position at scrum half made the final score 79 - 10 to Watford. However they did ease off towards the and conceded two individual tries to their opposition that were just about deserved.

As the scoreline suggested Watford at times played some sparkling attacking rugby from all parts of the pitch involving both forwards and backs. One of the features of the play was their ability to create space and overlaps by offloading in the tackle. Also the support lines of running from team-mates were excellent throughout.  It must however be noted that the OMT's pack failed to secure their own set pieces and the Watford scrum secured almost 100% of posession even on OMT put ins. Due to their efforts in the game, captain Gary Bridge was unwilling to award man of the match to an individual player and felt the team deserved to share it

Finally Hertford in the final on the 21st April at Welwyn are likely to provide a much sterner test, let's just hope that Watford can go one better than last year against Tring and bring some silverware back to Radlett Road.
