Go Play Rugby @ WRFCThe Rugby World Cup this year will give our game a massive profile and I have been tasked to help Watford RFC take advantage of this. The RFU will help us deliver the biggest recruitment campaign ever mounted in Hertfordshire by adopting an innovative approach to strengthen our game by growing the number of adult social players. I'll be visiting Watford RFC on Thursday 28th June after training to launch GOPLAYRUGBY @ 21:00. You will get unprecedented national and local support using professional marketing methods and materials which have been successfully tried, tested and piloted in a number of other clubs. You will need to identify the most enthusiastic volunteers in your club to lead your campaign and to work closely with the Hertfordshire Campaign Team. Watford RFC's Campaign Team will need to be able to commit to a planning period from April to July, followed by an intensive recruitment programme from August to October. There are three key roles that you will need to make up your Campaign Team. They are:- The Campaign Leader will plan and lead the delivery of an adult player recruitment campaign. He will recruit, deploy and manage Watford RFC Campaign Team, being an individual of influence with the ability to get the whole club involved. He will also plan for the integration and subsequent retention of new players into the club. The Recruiters will plan and deliver specific events and activities to recruit adult players. They will be self motivated individuals who will attend club training nights and be at the bar enlisting the help of as many current club members as possible. They will distribute campaign materials around the local area and work with local partners to deliver recruitment events. The Integrators are likely to be lower team players, managers or captains. Their job will be to make sure that the new players are integrated effectively and selected to play as soon as possible. They could be described as the “Welcoming Committee” for new recruits. I would suggest that enthusiasm and commitment coupled with the ability to work successfully with other volunteers is vital. Good people skills, tenacity, imagination and a sense of humour will all help make your campaign a success. It would be helpful if at least one member of the team was comfortable using the Internet and it would be most helpful if all members of your Campaign Team could be contacted via e-mail. If you want Watford RFC to be part of this unique project and create a positive legacy for future generations to enjoy rugby in Hertfordshire please attend after training on thursday @ 21:00. You will receive further information and materials soon to support your campaign. Can you also e-mail me at or to let me know that you'll be attending after training. |
