U14’s Rugby - Watford 0 – 12 Cheshunt - 19/03/06

The match started with Watford kicking to Cheshunt. For the 1st 5 minutes Watford were under pressure from the Chesham forwards, with Watford rarely getting out of their own half of the pitch. It looked like Cheshunt’s pressure had paid off when they took the ball over the try line, but Watford were able to hold the ball up and not concede the try.

Cheshunt’s pack was much bigger than Watford’s and for most of the half they were pushing the Watford pack backwards. Cheshunt scored a try after a couple of mauls were pushed back into the Watford 22. They were unable to kick the conversion from near the touchline.

The second half was played in a similar fashion and although the Watford forwards were doing better in the scrums, they were still being pushed back in the rucks and mauls, and were conceding the ball in the lineouts, to the taller Cheshunt forwards. Cheshunt scored a 2nd try when a pass was intercepted in Watford’s 22, and the Cheshunt player had only to run through and touch down. This time Cheshunt converted the try from right under the posts making the score 12-0 to Cheshunt. It was a hard fought match with several delays for injuries, including Mike De-Honri suffering concussion and needing to go to hospital.
