Watford progress past Fullerians in the Merit Cup

Local derbies are never faint hearted affairs and this was no exception, with the added spice of it being a cup competition. The First half was a typical cup tie, both sides approached the game with caution, not wanting to give anything away. Fullers had the early pressure and went over for an early try in the corner from a quick penalty. Watford responded positively and after a great clearance kick managed to pin fullers into their own half for a sustained period of pressure which eventually resulted in a penalty and young Adam Johnson slotting it over.

Shortly after fly half, Jon Jenkins cut a great running line to score a fine solo try to put Watford into the lead 8-5, a lead they never gave up. Playing into the strong wind second half Watford had to keep the ball in hand which seemed to help them. The pack doing all of the hard work supported by some good hands and running by the backs managed to keep the ball away from fullers’ kickers and the Watford try line.

After continued pressure , another break from JJ, lead to a Watford try for Centre young Andy Lee, swiftly followed by one for winger tucker. This took the game away from fullers and wrapped things up nicely, 20 -5.This was Watford's first victory over a senior Fullerians side in a cup competition.

Watford 55 - 0  Pinner and Grammarians

Watford first team continued their winning run at home against the team that pulled out of the league a few weeks previous. The score line was an emphatic 55 – 0 to the home team, with 2 tries scored by flanker Mark Hicks and winger Jon Portway and single tries scored by number 8 Mark Patterson, fly half Ian Butcher, centres Peter Cox and Quintas Van Bosch and full back Sven Ossowski. Scrum half Simon Maney converted 5 of the tries. This gave the home team a comfortable win against a team that is trying to rebuild and who showed good spirit, but were eventually overrun by the better team.
