Watford travelled away to face St Albans, having beaten them at home were looking for the away win to further their league campaign.
With a host of new players joining the Watford side it was going to be an interesting game and it certainly started that way. With the wind favoring the visitors in the first half, Watford dominated field position with some well placed kicks followed by a good chase.

St Albans’ set piece was holding up well but they struggled to match Watford for pace which allowed Watford to be the first to every breakdown and quickly resulted in a string of first half tries from Tom Kiely, Richard Yates, Scott Menzies and Paul Godfrey.

The second half strong winds lured St Albans into a kicking game which mostly fell to Watfords favor with their more mobile pack, able to counter attack with the ball in hand. However it did allow St Albans to get some set piece ball within the Watford 22’. A strong forward drive to the 5 meter line and a smart dummy from the Number 10 put him over for a spirited try, the first of two. Their second being scored in much a similar fashion.

Some of the energy of the game had been lost with ten minutes to go due to the high score, until inside centre Tom Kiely broke the line with a decisive running angle off the scrum half. It was a sprint to the line against the opposition 10 until the race was lost meters from the try line when a hamstring injury pulled the Watford Hero short.

End of play. Match done.

All,

This weekend the first team are at home to Hatfield in the quarter finals of the Herts presidents Trophy. This is a big game for the club in a competition we have a real chance of doing well in, so first and foremost a good turn out for the sidelines will be most welcome. Secondly, a delegation form the RFU are coming down to have a look at the new facilities, watch the game and meet some of the players after the game. With this in mind, please can ALL players ensure they arrive at the club in shirt and tie, and also change into shirt and tie after the match. We are under the spotlight here, so please lets all make a good impression. People who lock George in a cupboard after the game will be looked favourably upon.

Bring on tomorrow!

All,

Sorry for the delay in confirming tour dates. This is now sorted, and we will be going away oon Friday the 18th May returning Monday 21st.

As for venue, this was met with (limited) opposition, but I have made an executive decision to head back up to Blackpool. The main reason for this is cost - three nights in a hotel with a late night bar and full English breakfast near to the town centre is looking to cost around £80 (not including travel). They are also more than happy hosting all male groups. Added to this, we are already in contact with a team up there, plus there are a lot of activities available to us in our ‘down time’ .

Anyway, to thos of you have already been there on tour, I apologise for returning. Except Bridgey, I don’t think there is anywhere he hasn’t been on tour.

Final cost as always is subject to numbers and a final coach quote, but we should be looking at around £120 final cost. This will include travel to and from the hotel, transport to the match, a full english breakfast each morning & tour shirts.

To secure a place, I’ll need £50 deposit by the first week in February at the latest - the quicker you pay up, the easier!
