Morning all,

So the kicking competition is coming (29th of August, Bank holiday Sunday). It’s a 1.30pm meet time.

We shall battle it out to find WRFC’s ultimate kicking champion.

The rules are as follows -

1. Only gents registered to play for Watford RFC can compete.

2. A small fee will have to be paid to compete. All competitors should come and see me or Brauny to pay your fee and have your name put into the hat, before the competition start time of 2.30 pm.

3. All competitors must use one of the balls and tees provided for their kick. You cannot use your own!

4. All competitors must retrieve the ball after their kick or risk disqualification.

5. There will be a judge present and their decision will be final.

Round 1. Kicking from the tee.

Two names will be drawn from the hat. The two competitor’s will take 3 kicks from the tee, from 3 different areas. The winner of the round will go through to the next round and so on, until we have a winner. If no one gets the ball over the posts in a round, the nearest effort will go through (Judge will decide). If two competitors get all 3 kicks over then we go to knock out kicks until a winner emerges.

Round 2. Drop goal off.

Simple its knock out drop goals. Competitor’s start in front of the posts. Everybody gets 1 drop goal attempt, get it over you go through to the next round where you will get another kick and the distance from the posts will be increased each time until we get a winner.

Round 3. If we get different winners from rounds 1 and 2, we will have a head to head battle to find our champion.

After the competition, we will have the closing ceremony, with awards and shame for the best & worst kickers of the day. Martin Lee & T.J will sing their rendition of Simply the Best to our champion (unless either of them wins!!!!) and George is going to close proceedings with his dance tribute to Michael Jackson.

This is the last big get together before the season starts; it would be great to see all of you there and competing.
I still don’t think a back is going to take the crown!!!!!

See you at training during the week.

Cheers Rick.

You’re a gent Col, with your backing I can’t possible fail.

What do folk think to running a book on this? We all chuck in a quid, choose their winer then come the end those who picked the winner divide the takings between them. For example, four people vote for George to win, he wins (as a pig flies over the clubhouse). £20 was taken, therefore those who picked the winner take a fiver each. If no one picks the winner, then the money goes into the tour fund.

I would recommend an impartial observer running this. As we all know, the temptation of winning such a monumental sum of money may well lead to a competitor deliberately missing their kick in order to secure the winnings…

What about a sweepstake instead?  Same as like in the Grand National, put a quid or two in and pull a name out of the hat.

As long as if I get drawn with Martin and beat him, I shall be happy.

I take it ‘other back’ means Danny Bartram? Because that’s who’s gonna win.

The idea is to kick it through the posts Danny, not slice it into touch - otherwise your a cert!

Let the mind games begin lol

Gentlemen,

Just wondered whether the rules of combat could be changed in order to make it fairer for everyone participating and also to get a clearer picture of the clubs “kicking Hierarchy” ???

My suggestion:

To have everyone start from one point(Let’s say from 15 yards out) and those who convert can have a rest while the rest have two more chances to progress through to the next stage(Much like the elimination process in High Jump). Those who get through can then start from another point(next stage), say from 25 yards out, etc, etc. This way, only the BEST OF THE BEST will be left towards the end unlike the proposed method where if the two best kickers get drawn out first to do Battle, how would we know who the REAL 2nd best or the 3rd best kicker of the Club is???

My humble thoughts on this matter.

Good suggesstion to be fair. Give a bit more tension towards the end of the round too. Either way I’m looking forward to it
