It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood;

who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming;

but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions;

who spends himself in a worthy cause;

who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly,

so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

May the rugby gods smile on all Watford Seniors tomorrow, be it victory or defeat, we do so daring greatly

Sedge u can’t go nicking legendary speeches without so much of a nod of the head to guy who said it, bad form. Poor old Teddy

Apparently Nelson Mandela gave a copy of this poem to Francois Pienaar to read to the 1995 Springboks side, but I think Ill leave out reading it to our side till we really need it, plus Im leaning more towards the “Gladiator” speech

I’m liking the gladiator speech, the safas didn’t even muster a try in the final after that ole peice of tut, and they were only playing England!! smile

Yeah they won in 2007, in 1995 they won but it was all penalties, shittest game ever (apart from maybe England Argentina a week ago) can’t believe they bothered to make a film about it

I’m telling lies it was an all black safa final in 1995 which no tries were scored, England beat them in the group stages I think
