Playing from the kick off, Watford found themselves making ground into the oppositions half. After good forwards work, Fly half Mcgee showed profound vision to kick over Old Ashmolean’s defence to allow prop Miller to pick it up and bundle it over in the corner for the first of his two tries. Mcgee then showed his intent to rack up 24 points in the game by slotting a difficult kick from the sidelines.
Mcgee and Miller combined again to create Watford’s second try, a result of deft hands and clear communication throughout the entire squad. However, as a result of this early lead, Watford failed to keep playing to their full strength, poor discipline leading to a quick tap penalty from 10m out allowing OA’s to put a converted try against them.
This galvanised the team, ensuring that they never lost perspective that the game is not won until the final whistle. Watford were then handed the advantage through a yellow card being awarded to the oppositions flanker for consistent fouling.
This benefit was not wasted as Watford continued to outpace their opposition, a number of penalties being awarded to Watford as Old Ashmoleans struggled to keep them at bay. A further 3 points were hammered over the crossbar by Mcgee.
A debut try was scored by Guy Youlls, giving a sterling performance at outside centre, his try a result of determination and placing pressure upon his opposing number. Further tries were scored by Mcgee and Menzies, both a result of good support play from both forwards and backs.
Brothers Steve Hill and Mark Hill combined in a great display of support rugby, allowing older brother Steve to touch down in the far corner. Miller converted from a very difficult angle.
The final play of the game was a good summation of the game for Watford, scrum half Botha giving a great show and go, taking his man then offloading to Mcgee, allowing for the final play to put Watford over the 50 point margin.
