Gale force winds were not to keep spirits down as Watford took to the field certain that they were going to do a lot of running, utilising the wind at their backs in the first half. Indeed, this was how the first try was scored, Mcgee chipping from just outside the oppositions 22m line, the wind taking it and a lucky bounce well controlled by full back Jacob Harris.
What happened next is anyones guess, though the reporter knows that many tries were scored. Some soft and high tackling from Watford led to Old Ashmoleans managing to spend long periods within the Watford 22, only gutsy defending keeping them shut out for the duration of the game.
Braun, returning from an extended period of absence due to injury made his presence known from the wing, managing to net himself 2 tries. Further scores came from Mcgee x 2, Stuart Menzies, Lee, and what was try of the match Mark hill.
This was singled out due to the interplay that the forwards and backs managed to play. MOTM Gary Bridge took an offload from Lee, to offload to M.Hill who managed to spear through to dive over the whitewash.
Watford managed to create a lot of overlaps in the 2nd half, due to quick ball and a refusal to over commit at the rucks, something that they were found guilty of in the 1st half of the game.
Veteran all rounder Gary Bridge earned Man Of The Match for his continuing efforts in the tight and the loose. Some trivia for you, Bridge was the oldest player on Watford’s team by some 18 years!
