U7's and U8's
« on: April 05, 2006, 09:09:00 AM »

Hi all,

I don't know how to get a story on to the main header, maybe somebody in the know can assist!

The U7's and U8's of Watford played at the Hertfordshire tournament on Sunday and had an excellent day.

The weather was changeable (sunburnt face to freezing hail!), the day was long with a 9.00 am start and a finish around 5pm, but it was worth it.

The U8's in the cup, won three pool matches and drew one to progress to the semi finals, where they played the eventual winners Harpenden.
Watford were 3-0 down at the half but found strength and courage to bring the game back to 4-4, only to be pipped at the last with a try in the dying seconds to go down fighting 5-4.

The U7's in the plate competition went one better. After winning all of the pool games, against Bishops Stortford, Harpenden, Chess Valley and OA's d, they then won the semi final comfortably to progress to the final against Tring.

The first half was quite even, with only a couple of missed tags the difference, however the second half proved to be Trings. They just edged out our boys 5-3.

Both our U7's and U8's showed a great deal of decorum and were gracious in defeat and in victory alike.

They proved that Watford Rugby Club are becoming one of the best teams in Hertfordshire and this is down to the coaches and the discipline and experience they show in producing two teams who played excellent rugby. Great tackling, great running and a never say die attitude which should inspire the teams above them.

Watch out guys, the next generation of Watford players are growing up fast!!

Tried to remember most of the facts, slight error with the finalists, it was against Old Albanians so I think you must keep your position Mandy!
