I'll be there.
Though, not sure what use I'll be. Still working on getting the achilles up to a decent level of strength.

Physio (at Hosp) has told me this might be as good as it gets, and I didn't need to go back!! Needless to say, that's been a shock to me. Back to see the specialist mid-Aug, though I may try to bring that forward.

Haven't run on it since it happened. So, no idea what will happen!!
I'll be a bit of a lightweight, I'm afraid.

But, I can still pedal. So, have been out on the bike several times a week to keep my cardio 'up'.

If all else fails, I can hold a water bottle. I'm good at that. Although, you don't want to be in a hurry getting it from me.

Bazza

I don't know you but we have exchanged a number of forum comments.

Don't rush back and don't over commit, you will be ready when you feel right, don't put yourself under any pressure.

To much enthusiasm can result in a set back to such an injury - I know from experience.

Come down, watch and learn, do the fitness don't worry about the contact just yet, build your strenghth and confidence first.

Hey mate. Don't worry about me. I'll definitely be taking it easy!
No full-contact stuff for me.
I'll probably only be fit for stretching and gentle jogging around.
But, I'll get there.

Bazza,

Just to say, if you wanna definitely make sure your achilles is sorted, DON'T rely on NHS physios or even BUPA physios.  They're trained to get you back on your feet and able to perform daily tasks, they're not getting you ready to play sport.  When I had surgery on my knee, as soon as I could walk I started going to my sports physio.  I would HIGHLY reccommend him, hes helped me out alot over the years and even if its just the one session to find out if your good or not, I would still recommend going.  Don;t wanna see anymore big injuries!!

His name is Phil Edwards and hes currently based at Watford Leisure Centre so phone them for an appointment, hes £40 a go but hes a god.

Hope I can be of service.

Good advice, that. Added karma.
I was pretty shocked when my NHS physio told me not to come back. I mean, he hadn't put me on a treadmill and tested me running/jogging, or even told me how to work up to it, or when/how I should try.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to be able to make it through training on Tuesday. Though, my running ability is seriously lacking (for the moment), thanks to the skinny right leg.

Didn't actually suffer that much after training. Yesterday was pretty good, as long as I didn't want to lift my arms that high. But, I'm fcuked if I can move today!! Not sure if I'll make training tonight, at the moment, as I can barely walk! These things happen when you are a fat, old, computer geek, recovering from 9mths off post-injury!! Wink

Given how I'm looking to take up mountain-biking again soon, I'd best seek that chap out ASAP!

Gents,

Last weeks sessions were very good with lots of effort and enthusiasm put in my the majority.  What does concern me is that people said that they would be there on sunday and only 3 players turned up!!!!

If you want the training sessions and you say that you'll attend then turn up so coaches don't waste their time, planning and attending the session to be let down by players not turning up!!!!

Rant over.
See you all n tuesday.
Cheers

Gents, we have had a good 1st week of pre season, even allowing for yesterdays "confusion"!  Grin Lets make sure we all get down again this week, even Sunday! We all know somebody that hasn't started training yet so lets all make the effort to get them down. See you all tomorrow  Grin

Speaking for myself, I found out last week that my body isn't as capable as I'd like. I could barely move for most of Wednesday!! Comes from sitting at a desk all day, barely moving a muscle, I suppose.

So, I'm going to listen to my body (for once), and will only be able to make training once a week - at least for the first month. I'm not sitting on my arse for the rest of the week, I'll be out on the bike doing my CV work around Watford/etc.

On the plus side, the training that I did do has definitely made me feel like I'm on the mend. Leg has felt better than it has done for a fair old while. I just have to remember not to overstretch it.

See you tomorrow.
